「海賊」が出てくる映画等見ますと、必ずと言っていい程キャプテンは「片目にアイパッチ」をしているキャプテンが出て来ます。あの黒いおムスビ型のアイパッチです。

「片目だからアイパッチ」よいうのが一般的理解で、殆どの映画でもその様な設定の様です。

事実は・・・どうも違う様です。

・まず戦闘／襲撃に関わる普通の海賊メンバーで、アイパッチしてるの、見ないですね。これは事実に関連している様です。

・何故キャプテンか？

★「片目を常に暗順応させておくため」が歴史的事実だそうです。外は明るいので明順応しています。「片目にアイパッチ」をしていればその眼は暗順応しているわけです。

・そうすれば、マトモな照明が無い、暗い船艙に降りたとき、アイパッチを外せばすぐに周囲が見える訳です。

・そう、海賊のキャプテンは明るさに応じて眼を使い分けていたんです。常に片目で仕事をするから距離感が必用な戦闘は無理ですが、指揮／指示には充分。照明が不備な過去の船では重要な事だったそうです。

意外なところに暗順応利用の歴史的事実が有った様です。
